LAX shooting could affect air travel across nation

A shooting at Los Angeles International Airport grounded flights at the nation's sixth-busiest airport Friday, but the situation in the early going had yet to affect air travel across the nation.

However, aviation experts said the longer planes are grounded and kept from landing at LAX, the more likely travel across the country will be delayed.

"It still may be too early to see the impact," said David White, a spokesman for Flightstats.com, a website that monitors departures and arrivals across the country.

Eyewitness account:

Leon Saryan of Milwaukee, who was in Terminal 3 during this morning's incident, gave this account to Wisconsin radio station WTMJ:

"They told everybody to run towards the gates, and I couldn't run because I had my shoes and my belt off. So I was trying to gather up my stuff and get going and the TSA worker right behind me saw me and said, 'get out of here, get down there.' He grabbed my shoes and I just started running.

"And I got halfway down the hall ... and I was in the hallway cowering when the guy came through. And he had a rifle in his hand and he looked at me and he said 'TSA?' and I shook my head and he kept going."
