Yes. They can consider lesser charges of second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter.
I'm going to work on some other stuff and will come back on before noon to update, unless we get a verdict before that.
Nothing going on yet. I haven't seen the court attendant and none of the attorneys are here.
I think Owens said he saw Mitchell outside Robinson's apartment the second time and when he reached in his pockets to get money he didn't have any. He told Owens he was going to his car to get some and then he came back with money. Owens said the money had blood on it.
Mitchell said he came upon cab in the alley, Stickley was already dead, he looked for something to steal and took her purse and bank bag. When he went through the gate into the back he saw Owens there and bought some crack from him.
But that's our system. His previous convictions did come out since he testified but he hasn't been convicted on the assault charge so that couldn't come out.
I'm going to grab lunch and will check back in with you all this afternoon.
No verdict yet, Kids! I'm afraid it's going to be a long afternoon. They also haven't had any questions.
Is there anyone on the blog who has been a juror? I want to do a story with former jurors talking about their experiences.
You have been? If you're willing to be interviewed, email me at email@example.com
And give me your contact information.
They will go until 4:30 p.m.
Just to clarify to others, I didn't make the high statement. That was someone else. Everybody has an opinion. There are people on here who think he's guilty and some think he's innocent, and that's OK.
Was the defendant Braggs?
There are 12. They let the three alternates go yesterday.
They do it as soon as they get the attorneys, families and defendant here.
Yeah, Bruce Braggs. I covered that one.
I hear you. The bad thing is both counties lack diversity. I'm not sure how that can be resolved. I thought it was interesting that during the jury selection, Johnston brought the fact that there were no black people in the jury panel and said it wasn't fair but some white people on the panel said it was offensive to them to assume they convict him based on race.
People are randomly chosen according to voter registration and maybe driver's licenses, so I don't know how that could be resolved.
