Welcome to the Gazette/KCRG's prep football live chat! We'll be taking questions about Week 1 matchups, the season ahead, and anything else you can think of.
Good evening, Mr. Louwagie.
Football season is here. Where did the summer go? Glad to be here for the chat.
Summer was never really here. Only one day above 90. Hard to believe.
Maybe that's why it felt so fast.
Checking in from the ballpark. Good evening, boys.
Let's get started! Fire away with your questions.
ICW. Not sure what to expect from Kennedy early on.
I second KJ's motion. West.
Make that a third for West. Kennedy will have a new offense, we'll have to see what it's made of.
BUT, I have no doubt Whitey will do well.
I think it could be ugly or close...Washington will win.
I'd go with Wash by 2-3 TDs, really interested to hear the reports on Jeff QB Jesse Furrow.
Washington will win by three TDs. But Jeff will be competitive.
I'm anxious to see Furrow and Tavian Rashed as a pass/rush combo for Jefferson. I think potential to be effective is there.
We were talking on our podcast today, and we're in agreement that it should be a good year for QBs in the Metro.
If depth is a factor at all, it will not favor Jefferson.
Jefferson could have a resurgent year, but I don't think that starts with Washington. As KJ just said, Jeff isn't very deep, unlike Wash. How Jeff competes in this game could go a long way to telling us what they have for this season.
Or how it responds if it loses this game.
Jefferson needs to do two things Friday: Compete and stay healthy.
If I was Jeff, I would put little stock into the scoreboard. Measure effort and occasional effectiveness. If that keeps it close, so be it. Fight and get through to Week 2.
Xavier's going to win a lot of games this season. Friday is unlikely to be one of them.
Considering Dowling and QB Ryan Boyle carved up what could have been Xavier's best defense ever, and 10 starters have to be replaced there ... could be ugly.
Not sure why that happened. My apologies.
So while we wait, who are some teams you guys think could surprise people this year?
Xavier folks might disagree.
I thought Prairie would be a weak team but the more I look at some pieces coming back that they could be a decent team.
In the Metro, I think Linn-Mar is most likely to "surprise."
In the area, I think Mount Vernon could be in for a nice jump. Schedule lends itself to 6-7 wins.
We mentioned them already, but Jefferson could surprise if Furrow is what he's hyped up to be. Even 4 or 5 wins is unexpected outside the program.
