Didn't NFV win convincingly last time? I can't recall.
44-34, if I remember right.
Just my opinion, Jeff, but I'd rather an 8-1 team be out than a 2-7 team in. Sometimes districts are more competitive. Like a 11-5 team in the NFL not making the playoffs.
Think that was one of those late-night, lightning-delayed game.
South Winn has lost its QB to broken arm since then, too. Going with a sophomore this time.
I think MV's strength plays to Regina's strength, which you would think leads to a bad matchup. I think it will be close for 2-3 quarters and Regina widens the gap late.
I've been wrong on Maquoketa Valley throughout the playoffs. Thought they'd lose to West Branch, and definitely thought they'd lose to Wilton.
Anything that keeps an 8-1 team out of the playoffs is silly.
Was that a high occurrence before, 8-1 teams missing?
Happened about once every 2-3 years. Would be a three-way tie in a district and somebody would get left out. I know it happened to Monticello once and West Branch once. That's why I like 24. Not watered down, but guarantees the elite teams qualify. Plus gives an advantage to district champs with a Round 1 bye.
Clayton Ridge's ability to spread the field and Helle's scrambling ability posed some fits for Regina. Once they got near the end zone and the field "shrunk" it allowed Regina to get stops. See how the matchup with MV plays out.
Does Maquoketa Valley have much balance, or is it primarily all Parmely all the time?
He had 40 carries Monday night.
Dzaboff has like 900 yards passing for MV.
That's enough to keep a defense somewhat honest. Supposed to be windy tonight though.
Do you all have any upset picks in mind for tonight?
Gotta stick with my Washington over Pella predict.
I think there will be a healthy dose of Parmely. It's their strength and allows MV to chew up the clock. That might be a strong game plan. Score when you can and limit the Regina offense's chance to score. Bad thing, Regina has scored on defense and special teams.
Bad news for Pella...I picked them.
That noise is people in Washington cheering.
Grinnell over Clear Lake in 3A? Bettendorf over PV in 4A? Some interesting matchups tonight, for sure. Not a ton of "upsets" left to be had, honestly. So many good teams.
There really aren't too many games left I was call "upsets."
Ogden over Van Meter. Go Fighting JR's! :)
Of the unranked teams, I would say the most likely winner tonight is Sioux Center in 2A.
What the heck? I will throw Pekin against the wall and see if it sticks. For the record, I picked BGM at start of the playoffs.
I think just two, Andy. Josey and Robby. Isn't it Robby that plays for Luther?
Pekin did play BGM close in Week 9 ...
Fans, what games are you wondering about tonight?
I'm actually excited to see how the Don Bosco/Springville game plays out. This is a game I've been waiting for all season, really.
I know it's not REALLY an upset, but I think Waukon beats New Hampton tonight.
Looking at 4A brackets ... hasn't been a game closer than 21 points on the west side yet in first two rounds.
I think there will be some points put up tonight in Gilbertville. I should probably purchase an extra pen.
Right on, Deb. And, rightfully so!
I think, if they don't turn the ball over, Springville will find a way to get enough stops to win. Something like 56-42.
