Welcome to the Iowa Prep Sports football quarterfinals chat! Our reporters will log on in a few minutes to take your questions. Feel free to leave them here in the meantime.
Happy Friday everybody. Last playoff games before the Dome.
Hey Jeff and Jeremiah. What games are you guys covering tonight?
We're both headed north ... him farther than me. I'll be at the 8-Man showdown between Springville and Don Bosco.
I'll be in Minneso...I mean Decorah for a Class 3A showdown between Decorah and Solon.
Should be a dandy, JH. I'll take the Demons for no other reason than a hunch.
I think most of us picked Washington to advance, JH, but home field advantage could be huge for Pella. I still like Washington, but should be very close.
The coaches make those picks, not the writers.
We're at the point now that every game should be very competitive.
No doubt, Brad. Wouldn't shock me if whoever wins that game is in the state title game.
What does everyone think about these kids playing 3 games in 9 days? I find it ridiculous, personally.
Actually, it's 4 games in 14 days. Either way, it's silly. Dangerous, in my mind.
Sorry, I'm late. Laptop issues.
Can't be seen as anything other than that, JJ. With everything we're learning about what this game does to the human body - kids especially - it's irresponsible of adults to put these kids through that.
Actually, it's four games in two weeks, isn't it? Think it is bad set up.
The bad thing is, it's an easily fixable problem.
The coaches need to push harder to get this corrected. It's all because the IHSAA wants everything to end before Thanksgiving.
Then move the whole season up a week earlier.
At some point, logistics need to take a back seat to safety. The coaches all balked at a lack of two-a-days (that whole situation has its own set of problems, anyway), so stretching things out will probably see resistance.
What Boone wants, Boone gets. Hate to share the bad news but any discussions with coaches in any sport are likely token gestures. I think the IHSAA will do what it wants. How do the coaches really have any power?
Yeah, that's a sound reason too. Although, I do like 24.
What do you guys think the best game on tonight's schedule is?
I love the 16-team system. Used to really mean something to make the playoffs. And any time a team with 2 or 3 wins makes it, everyone looks bad. And the games aren't good until the second and third rounds anyway.
Forgot about the 2-a-days. How can they regulate 2-a-days and still allow so many games in such little time? That's being contradictory.
I think New Hampton/Waukon, Washington/Pella, Solon/Decorah and Regina/Maquoketa Valley
Bad thing about 16 is, it's possible an 8-1 team doesn't get in.
Do you think Maquoketa Valley can compete with Regina, KJ?
Harlan/Bishop Heelan will be good, too.
